In 2019 MotoGP, Morbidelli is the flagship racer of Petronas Yamaha SRT. Later, he will get a motorbike like Rossi's in Movistar Yamaha, YZR-M1. Meanwhile, Bagnaia will make his debut in MotoGP. "Yes, you know, when we started this academy project, with Morbidelli and Bagnaia, we didn't expect this problem, I didn't think our drivers arrived and fought against me," said the 39-year-old MotoGP rider.

Rossi himself was very aware of the threats of his two students. Morbidelli was able to keep up with Rossi since the Valencia test, while Bagnaia threatened with the second position of the Sepang preseason test last day.

"So on the one hand we were very worried, I was very worried. From the other side, we were very happy because our academy worked well," Rossi said. "However, now this is the reality. We help drivers who might be able to beat me. But we can't go back anymore, the conditions are like this," said the Italian racer.
