Facebook tightens ads for elections? - Facebook said it reinforced its requirements regarding political advertising ahead of EU elections. The social media giant said Friday it was tightening its regulations further to prevent foreign interference and increase transparency ahead of the vote in May.

The company said it would require political advertisers to confirm that they were located in a country in the European Union. This exceeds the previous provisions that advertisers must confirm their identity.

Facebook has also made improvements to its advertising database, including expanding access so that outside groups can analyze political advertisements or other issues. Companies in Silicon Valley have been pressured by authorities in the European Union to do more to prevent their platforms being used by groups, including from Russia, to interfere in elections.
